Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a common disorder that can happen to people who drink little or no alcohol and It refers to a group of conditions where there is accumulation of excess fat in the liver.
The risk of developing NAFLD is higher in obese people because one of the locations fat is stored is in the liver, and this build up can cause NAFLD. The issue is that NAFLD can have serious consequences such as liver failure. Here are some tips to prevent Non-alcoholic fatty liver:
1. Eliminate high-fructose corn syrup from your diet
High fructose corn syrup found in our processed foods is the single biggest cause of fatty liver. It can be found in many packaged foods including sodas and soft drinks, candy, bread, cereals, baked goods and even seemingly healthy foods such as salad dressings, yogurt and granola bars! Be sure to always read the ingredients and stay away from this ingredient.
2. Get moving!
Try to incorporate HIIT into your routine to break down the fat that accumulates in your liver.
3. Nutritional Supplements such as Vitamin E
Most supplements for non-alcoholic fatty liver focus on antioxidants and methylation support to benefit the liver and prevent the deposit of fat and further inflammation.
Research done at the University of Florida suggests that lifestyle changes, along with vitamin E supplements, are helpful for people with liver damage caused by non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
Focus on eating whole foods from clean sources, get your body moving and try to stay away from processed foods to prevent liver damage.
