We are bombarded with environmental estrogens called xenoestrogens that can mimic estrogen in the body. These can be found in plastics, cosmetics, pesticides, chemicals and more but did you know that too much estrogen upsets the body’s delicate balance of hormones? Some of the most common female estrogen-dominant conditions are PMS, endometriosis, abnormal PAP tests, ovarian cysts, heavy periods, hormonal acne and the list goes on.
Although there is no replacement for a healthy diet, there are times when supplements can complement the healing process. Supplementing with the following nutrients can help protect you from the dangerous effects of environmental estrogens and balance hormones.
1. Indole-3-carbinol (I-3-C)
It is a powerful plant nutrient from cruciferous vegetables. I-3-C prevents the conversion of good estrogens to cancer-causing estrogens.
2. Green tea extract
Contains polyphenols, catechins and flavonoids shown to be protective against estrogen-related cancers and to stop abnormal cell growth.
3. Curcumin
It is the yellow pigment of turmeric. This powerful anti-inflammatory agent works to inhibit all steps of cancer formation: initiation, promotion and progression. It also supports the liver
4. Rosemary extract
A potent antioxidant that, protects cells from cancer-causing agents and helps to detoxify estrogen.
5. Sulforaphane
From broccoli sprout extract, has been shown to stimulate the body’s production of detoxification enzymes that eliminate environmental estrogens.
Discussing these options with your doctor, or holistic health care provider can help heal estrogen dominance and balance your hormones.
